TORROX
Torrox is a typical Andalucian village of approx 1400 population and lies 50 klms to the east of Malaga.
The village dates back to the 16th century where locals used to take baths in the surrounding spas. Fiestas are held in October and then again in December when it is traditional to hand out free local wine and migas. It is only a few minutes drive to the long sandy beaches of Torrox Costa where the long promenade boasts a plethora of bars and restaurants serving up a variety of international cuisine.

 
COMPETA
Competa is set in the foothills of the Sierra Almijareras and is about an hours drive from Malaga airport and 25 minutes to the beaches of Torrox Costa. In August is the festival of “Noche del Vino” when the harvesting of the grapes is blessed and a symbolic treading of the grapes takes place in the main square. There’s free wine all day long. The village has a typical Andalucian feel to it with plenty of tapas bars and shops, which frequent the winding narrow streets and alleyways. It’s a real taste of Spain.
 
NERJA
Nerja was once a sleepy fishing village but now is a bustling cosmopolitan resort. The Balcon de Europa is a cliff top that juts out to sea and is enclosed by two sandy beaches, a favourite spot for visitors to take in the stunning views of the Mediterranean. Nerja is probably most famous for its caves, which are located some 6 klms inland. Discovered in 1959 by some boys chasing bats, they found the entrance to a huge system of limestone caverns. Inside are ancient paintings of humans and visitors are treated to the sight of huge stalactites and stalagmites. In summer concerts are held in one of the great caverns.
 
FRIGLIANA
Travel 7klms north of Nerja and you come to the charming pueblo of Frigliana. Set high in the hills overlooking beautiful scenery and the sea in the distance, this tranquil village with its white washed houses was once voted the prettiest village in the whole of Andalucia. During the Christian conquest, Frigliana was the site of numerous battles culminating in the most famous, “The Battle of the Rock of Frigliana” in 1569 that ended in the complete expulsion of the Moorish people. The story is told in a series of 12 ceramic plaques around the village.
 
TORRE DEL MAR
Torre del Mar is a large seaside town with a population of around 16,000, in the summer months this can increase to as much as 150,000. This very Spanish town has long stretches of golden sandy beaches with plenty of Tapas bars and restaurants. It is thought that the town was an original part of an ancient Greek settlement known Muriake, which was destroyed by the Cartagians, their tombs were found at the mouth of the river Velez. More recently it was a fishing village until development began in the 1970s.
 
LA VINUELA
At around 400 ft above sea level Vinuela is a village situated close by to Lake Vinuela, which is one of the biggest freshwater lakes in Spain. The beauty of the area is now being recognized far and wide, with tourists coming for walking and fishing holidays or just a place to come and relax with a picnic. The area’s beauty has not gone unnoticed by those people wishing to buy homes in the area as a number of Villas have recently ‘sprung-up’ overlooking the lake.
